Happy New Year!

Tradition simply means that we need to end what began well and continue what is worth continuing”

-Jose Bergamin

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day." ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

One tradition we carry on every year is my great grandmothers coconut cake-I used the Stonewall Lemon Curd between the layers to make it extra special! Thanks Roseanna for your recipe it's wonderful!

Glory to God in highest heaven,
Who unto man His Son hath given;
While angels sing with tender mirth,
A glad new year to all the earth.
~Martin Luther

Bonnes Amies Christmas Breakfast

Thank-you Kathy for the wonderful breakfast it was delicious! Your warm home and hospitality was so warm and inviting. We all had a great time this year!
Took a few inspiring snap shots of her nooks and cranny's in her home-hope she didn't mind too much!

Here is her farm house kitchen table set up-we all loved her ruby red antique goblets-canvas tablecloth, and red plaid blanket over the top. Notice the huge wonderful lantern hanging over the table-it was filled with greenery and a large Santa.

Beautiful!

We want this Aoudad to go home with us-isn't he the perfect focal point for this great plaid room! This greenery and garland is pretty to leave up until Spring-a fresh winter look!

Love the deer skin and horns intertwined with this arrangement in the entry...

Details-details-details!

Such sweet things! Thanks again Kathy!

Mrs. Toddy Donahue's Lemon Cake Recipe

This cake is easy & taste fantastic! Beautiful bundt cake as well-be sure to grease and flour pan well...

  • 1 box of Duncan Hines Lemon Supreme Cake Mix
  • 1 - 3 1/2 ounce box of Jello Instant Lemon Pudding
  • 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 2/3 cup canola oil
  • 1 jar of Stonewall Kitchen Lemon Curd(available at the shop)

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Add cake mix and instant pudding to electric mixer bowl. In a measuring cup, add the lemon juice and cold water to make 2/3 cup. Add the eggs, lemon water and lemon extract to the dry ingredients and stir to blend. Pour in the oil and beat at medium speed for 6 minutes, or until very smooth.

    2. Take 1/3 cup of the batter and set aside. Pour remaining batter into a lightly oiled Bundt pan that has been sprinkled with sugar. Mix the reserved 1/3 cup of batter with the whole jar of lemon curd. Make a tunnel-like well through the batter in the Bundt pan and fill it with the batter-Lemon Curd mixture. Bake for about 50-60 minutes, until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted in cake comes out clean.

    3. When the cake is done, let it cool on a rack, and then invert onto a plate. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar and grated lemon peel and serve with a little Lemon Curd drizzled over if desired. Or glaze with the following: Combine 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest, 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract, 1 cup confectioner's sugar. Pierce cake with a skewer all over the top and drizzle glaze over.

Château de Cormatin

Château de Cormatin is located in the countryside of Bourgogne and was built in 1610.
What a grand home it was and still is and everything around it is so beautiful! The Chateau was occupied by a very aristocratic and wealthy family many years ago.

The Chateau is surrounded by a mote and one time a draw bridge. A man by the name of
Jacques du Blé grew up here and died young during the religious wars in France.
Here are the formal gardens surrounding the property.

The kitchen garden which was more up my alley! The garden was filled with kale, cabbages, and turnips! Everything had twig trellises-so interesting!

This is the kitchen that was later moved closer to the bedrooms after the wars started. The family wanted the kitchen closer to the wing in which they were staying.

Copper pots hanging on wall...
This was the library which was decorated as it would have been in the 16th and 17th century.

What a wonderful place full of history and stories. Please visit their website at www.chateaudecormatin.com to see more pics.
