"We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls."-Mother Teresa

Summer Birthday Party

We had our seasonal birthday party for employees at the shop. They are so much fun! Here is the table set outside on the deck. The sunflowers were just beautiful!
Here is a close up of the center with large sunflower leaves tucked in the center...

Never underestimate the gifts of nature. Sometimes beauty can be found right outside your back door (or next to a cotton field).

Here are all the girls at the table-We enjoy not being able to see everyone at the table we just listen as we talk. And stare at the huge beautiful sunflowers.
Here are the birthday girls and all of the wonderfully wrapped gifts. What a party...

Leopard with burlap ribbon-so creative!

Chocolate paper with brown mesh ribbon-love what is tied in the bow!
And this number is completely swallowed in burlap with a nest-Could it get any better?

Brightly Colored Pots & Firelites

Still love our collection of large brightly colored pots and firelites. The firelites are so neat lit inside a large hurricane globe or lantern. They create a wonderful ambiance outside at night as well! Wouldn't the orange and yellow pots here be so beautiful for Fall with a huge bundle of aspen leaves from the mountains in them? We think so...

French Desk Full of Things

Aren't desk interesting when they are opened and you can see inside of them. All the nooks and cranny's and maybe old ink splotches or a hidden key behind a drawer. This antique French desk is so charming and just the right size. Love the horn frames sitting on it, the European mounts, old mercury pieces, and silver jars. I recently purchased a few of the horn frames and put sepia toned photos in them and they turned out so pretty. We expect to get more in this Fall.

More Antique Chinese Pieces...

Love this old Hebei letterbox. What stories it could tell us of what special possessions and letters were held inside and where it was it stored in a home. Hebei is a province of the People's Republic of China in the North China region. Its one-character abbreviation is named after Ji Province, a Han Dynasty province that included what is now southern Hebei. The name Hebei means "north of the Yellow River.
Here are some more wonderful old pieces mixed in with our great colorful woven baskets. Love this large cabbage basket and square water pail next to it. These large buckets are great to hold books and magazines in, or fill it full of yellow sunflowers as a focal point on a table. Also in are old Chinese footed bowls in reds, yellows, and greens and carved wooden spoons.

If you can see underneath everything here is a very old Chinese horse trough. It would be fantastic with a large slab of granite on top for an island or table. Love the old black water bucket below and also in are a variety of small colorful children's chairs. We also have in very large Chinese bowls and baby baskets.

Italian Vietri Cucina Fresca & Crema Dinnerware
Vietri Cucina Fresca: Meaning "fresh kitchen," the charming shapes of this dinnerware offer simple sophstication in muted cream, saffron and sage. First introduced in 1996, Cucina Fresca made history as the first in the casual dinnerware revolution. Since then, VIETRI has added dozens of colors to this family of dinnerware characterized by charming, distinct shapes and rustic deckled edges.
Vietri Crema: The combination of soothing cream with subtle terra cotta edges creates a statement of quiet elegance. Handmade of terra cotta in Tuscany. In the 1300's, peasants used rustic glazes on their hand-thrown pottery that separated during firing, exposing the terra cotta on the edges of the pieces. VIETRI reproduces these edges today using clear glazes. Part of the Cucina Fresca Family of Dinnerware . Dishwasher safe. Charger, Dinner, Salad, Pasta Bowl, Cereal Bowl, Mug, Canape Plate, Espresso Cup & Saucer and Condiment Bowl are microwavable.

Aqua Antique-Inspired Majolica

This antique-inspired majolica is as close to the old collection in your grandmother's hutch as we've seen. The beautiful aqua's, greens, and chocolates are so pretty. All of these pieces are so reasonable in price and run in the $30-$40's each. These look wonderful with a small arrangement done in them-I can see the green and brown pitchers being beautiful for Fall.
Majolica mania began in 1851 in London when Herbert Minton delighted the public with a stunning display of new, jewel-toned earthenware, inspired to a large extent by the French and Italian maiolica of the Renaissance and later. Majolica, named after the Spanish island of Majorca, where the first examples of this pottery were said to have been created in the fifteenth century, is defined by the process of its formation as much as by its fantastical designs. It is heavy, richly-coloured clay pottery that is coated with enamel, ornamented with paints and finally glazed. Below is some imagery from an article on Majolica that ran in the March, 2005, issue of Martha Stewart Living and from the book Majolica: A Complete History and Illustrated Survey.
Many Majolica plates depict the food that is meant to be served upon them. (Be careful not to serve food on vintage Majolica platters, since the glazes likely contain lead.) Left row, from top down: a leaf-shaped plate, a lotus blossom plate - for ambrosia, perhaps - and corn-shaped pitchers, possibly American. Center row from top down: A corn platter, pear clusters adorning a brown dessert platter, a bread plate is marked by a starburst of wheat, a plate decorated with grapes. Right row from top down: A banana-leaf fruit plate, a berry plate, a strawberry plate adorned with leaves and flowers.

All the components of an English tea service are arranged on these shelves: creamers, pitchers, teapots, jars and serving plates. Teapots, especially those decorated with monkeys and serpents, are highly prized by collectors. The one formed by a monkey hugging a coconut (top shelf) is by Minton. On the center shelves are rare tea cups, once part of a larger service. Majolica teacups usually had vibrant hot-pink or turquoise interiors. The cabbage teapot with the snaky handle and spout (bottom shelf) is Portugese. The bamboo plate next to it is especially rare.

This green is just beautiful! The Victorian English, with their love of all things natural and unusual, quickly filled their dining rooms, parlours, conservatories and gardens with majolica ewers, candelabras, urns, pitchers, fountains and garden seats all glistening in cobalt, turquoise, lavender, gold and every shade of green known to Mother Nature. Other potters in England, such as Wedgwood, George Jones and Holdcroft, followed Minton's example and offered their own highly-prized majolica collections. Americans, too, caught on and manufactured majolica beginning in the 1890s.

A house we admired...

So we all took a trip to the Lubbock Home Tour this past weekend and we all voted that this was our favorite house. So I waited and waited for people to move so I could take a picture. Notice the sandals and shoes in front of the door. Sorry wish I could have taken pics on the inside but it was not allowed! Love the stacked stone and sandblasted brick mixed with the large wooden beams. So pretty!
