Spring Postcard 2011

This is my precious baby girl Madeline that will only be featured once on the card. Have you ever heard the saying "Every old crow thinks hers are the blackest."? These old vintage grocery scales from the 1950's are sitting in the middle of my kitchen on a butcher block my brother brought back to me from California. It took about 40-50 shots to get this one-precious! She wasn't too sure what I was trying to do!

If you would like to be added to our seasonal mailer please give us a shout....they are filled with inspiring ideas and talk about what's new at the store.

Greet Guests with Flowers

"Flowers always make a home seem more welcoming. Adorn your entrance with assorted annuals and perrenials to keep color year long. Petunia, Snapdragon, Lily-of-the-Nile, and 'Gertrude Jekyl' roses are great additions. If you have a small space beetween your house and the street, try putting a low fence in front. It gives the illusion that your house is farther from the street than it really is, and it also makes for a great space for planting flowers and vines." -Southern Living 10 Tips for a Beautiful Yard

Banana Bread Coffee + Chocolate Chip Biscotti=Pure Goodness!

So after stopping by the shop one afternoon I'm in love with a new coffee we recently started serving and selling. Banana Nut Bread-one word is delicious and so comforting every morning for me! The aroma of baked banana bread fills your kitchen-seriously...it's wonderful!
And what is better than a hot cup of banana nut bread? Chocolate Chip Biscotti to go with it. Yes! Bingo! Chopped hazelnuts, chocolate chips, and dried cranberries make these oh so scrumptious! (although I think chopped pecans might make them a little bit better!) They're Italian! Baked twice for a crunchy texture, biscotti are meant to be dunked in coffee.

Use a foolproof sugar cookie mix for an easy way to coffee-shop biscotti, the Italian twice-baked cookie. The mix might suprise you for an ingredient but I promise know one else will know! What a special treat for a friend that needs a pick me up too! Let us wrap your homemade biscotti up with some freshly ground coffee!

Chocolate Chip Biscotti

1 pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) Betty Crocker® sugar cookie mix

1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened

1 egg

¼ cup Gold Medal® all-purpose flour

½ cup toasted chopped hazelnuts

½ cup cherry-flavored dried cranberries, coarsely chopped

2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
