Sonoran Turquoise: The area in which sonoran turquoise is mined has a rich history in the Sonora Desert, a region that has been a source of high-quality turquoise for centuries. The mine is located at Campitos Mountain, just outside of Cananea, Sonora, Mexico, only about 35 miles from the Arizona border. This turquoise has been mined for centuries and traded northward through Native American trade routes. The Sonoran mine is known for producing a range of turquoise varieties, including Sonoran Gold, which is admired for its vibrant colors such as aqua blue, lime, bright green, and a mix of blue and green, often with a golden to brown matrix.

Baja Turquoise: Baja Turquoise, often referred to simply as “Baja Blue,” derives its name from the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico, where it is predominantly found. This semi-precious gemstone is closely linked to the region’s unique geological formations, characterized by copper-rich deposits that give Baja Turquoise its distinctive blue and green coloration. For centuries, indigenous peoples of the Americas, such as the Aztecs and the Native American tribes of the Southwest, revered Baja Turquoise for its beauty and believed it held protective and healing properties. Its association with the turquoise waters of the Pacific Ocean only adds to its allure.

White Water Turquoise: White Water Turquoise is a high-grade deposit sourced from the Campitos mine located on Campitos Mountain outside Cananea, Sonora, Mexico. This mine is renowned for producing some of the most stunning turquoise, featuring beautiful sky blue to aqua blue hues. White Water Turquoise often contains sparkling pyrite inclusions, enhancing its distinctive appearance. It is considered a higher-grade turquoise due to its intense blue color and dream-like white matrices. The gems from this claim frequently showcase the sought-after “water web” and “Birdseye” matrix patterns, making them particularly desirable among collectors and jewelry makers.
